November Update

The last few months have been pretty busy.

Last month, over at Moped Productions, I worked on a biography piece for Sterling Publishing's new author and book series. You can view the video here:

Interview with Colleen Houck, author of Tiger's Curse

I'm also involved in working on a Highlight Reel from this year's BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) Conference with Moped. Visit BSR online to familiarize yourself with their message, and to see the steps their taking towards better business practices and sustainability.

Over at EVE PEARL, I've been continuing to help produce our new webcast on ustream.tv - and Eve has had some really exciting guests on the show in the past few episodes like Sam Fine, Crystal Wrights and some really cool bloggers. Visit us at www.ustream.tv/evepearltv to see our latest show, chat and tweet with us.

Also from EVE PEARL, the first of many Qosmedix white page videos is live! Watch it here:

December shows no signs of stopping either. Stay tuned for my new updated reel which should be available to see come January.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

DSLR vs Prosumer Camcorder

So I'm just torn:

Do I go DSLR like the Canon 5D where I can (in theory) get the best of both worlds. Photography and beautiful HD video? But what about the Prosumer camcorders I've been working with for years? Won't I miss all the controls, the snap zooms and not having to buy expensive lens and audio equipment (ok, I will still have to buy audio equipment, but it might not be as bad with a prosumer video camera?)

I LOVE the look of videos being shot on the DSLRs right now- everything looks like film the way it has to be shot, which, if done right can have a relly cool end result. Is this where digital video is moving towards stylistically? Is this the look clients are looking for right now?

Also the price difference is shocking.

Honestly, I need to have a little more experience shooting on the new DSLRs before I can form a full opinion, so I guess I'm just wondering what you all think?

I also have the feeling that Sony and Panasonic should be putting out some competitors for the Canons soon, so is it just a terrible time to buy right now?

I like the discussion going on here: check it out

Ok, so here's an even better question - Will pro videographers legitimately be able to shoot projects on their iPhones? haha, I think so.

As always, thanks for stopping by, would love to hear some of your opinions....

Website Updates: New Logo, New Art Section and More!

NEW LOGO -So as you can see at the top of the blog and all through out the website, there is a new logo on the scene. She's cool, she's shooting some videos and there's a bird on her head!

I've been trying to come up with the perfect logo design for a few years now,and although she may not be perfect, I think she sums up the website and what I do pretty well. I sketched her up on Monday night and turned her digital yesterday using mostly Photoshop, but also a little Illustrator.

I wanted an image that represented my many hats, so to speak...The bird is meant to represent my Voice Over work, as you can see displayed on the VO Page. And the reason she's holding the camera is to represent my Video work.

NEW ART/POETRY SECTION - There's a new section on the website, called Art. It's a little rough right now as I'm trying to gather my art, poems and photography from over the years.....but stay tuned as I populate this page with more works.

NEW GRAPHICS - I've added the Show Open that I created for EVE PEARL video and also an example of my Photoshop skills. Check it out.

Hmm, what else is new? Oh yea, today I helped EP air her first of many live webcasts via Ustream.tv. Unfortunately, she made me get on camera at one point....but all around it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to next week's show. You can watch the recorded video here: EP Live. (I appear towards the end)

That's all the updates for now, but as always check back soon for more new projects being posted.

New Website Design!!

It took a while but the website finally got the overhaul it's been needing. Check it out now: www.sharonruedeman.com and let me know what you think. It's still (as always) a work in progress.

Hmm, what else is going? I just finished up a long edit with Moped Productions last month, a series of White Page videos for DeWitt Stern.

Also in July I was the lead camera on an all day shoot with Eve Pearl over at Qosmedix. I will most likely be starting the edit for 4 or 5 videos for them sometime this month. Very cool.

The Dan Mo video released last May/June has now reached over 200 hits on youtube, very exciting. Should be doing more videos with Dan again soon.

I also have plans of starting more personal projects coming up...Check back soon for more news and updates!

And as always, thanks for stopping by. Feel free to contact me for your video needs.

Editor Reel 2010

Finally, I was able to find some time in my busy schedule to update my reel. Check it out below:

But hey Sharon, what about the website? Oh don't worry, there will be a rehauling of www.sharonruedeman.com very soon.

In the meantime, please enjoy the new reel. All of these videos included in it I have edited in 2009 and just a few (just one in fact) in very early 2010.

Here are a list of the clients featured in the video:

-Moped Productions: The Knot, The Nest, cafemom
-Tomoko Edwards - UNIQLO FanTV: How to Wear HEATTECH Outer-innerwear
-ISRAMERICA - "Jews" Music Video
-Harrington Talents - Blood Night DVD Extra "Spilling Blood: The Making of Blood Night"
-Dexter Lake Club Band - Live Performances, as featured on NYTimes.com's style section
-Mary Ahern Artist - Video Profile/Garden Tour
-Naomi Ford - Music Video Captioning

All of these videos were edited using Final Cut Pro. Graphics that I created were either made in FCP, Motion, After Effects or Photoshop, or a combination of those. The music used under my reel is from www.freeplaymusic.com

To see full videos, visit my website: www.sharonruedeman.com and click on the blog, or email me for a DVD, you can also visit my youtube channel to see full works as well: http://www.youtube.com/user/shrnron3 or vimeo: http://vimeo.com/user2340115

Thank you so much for watching, and waiting patiently. And, as always, please feel free to contact me for any of your video editing and shooting needs.

Thank you,
Sharon

No Sleep Till Brooklyn!!!

The Freelancer's Union posted this article on their Facebook account recently, which I found interesting from Metro: check it out. It talks about the growing, young, Brooklyn Freelance community, which I am proud to be a part of.

As a Freelancer, you never know where your next paycheck may be coming from or when your next gig may be. A lot of young professionals out there are juggling multiple part-time and freelance jobs just to get by. I for one, have a part-time weekend job, which I decided to take up right before the holidays, just for a little stability in life. I'm lucky enough to have a part-timer that I love and where I enjoy what I do.

I'm also lucky enough to have just started working regularly with 5-time Emmy Award winning Make-Up Artist: Eve Pearl. No, I'm not doing make-up applications, but I am learning a little about the process as I create videos for her website and youtube account. Next week I will be joining Eve and her Team at IBS at the Jacob Javvitt's center in NYC. I'm looking forward to capturing all the moments on camera and seeing Eve work her magic.

I also just helped to celebrate Moped Production's (one of my favorite clients) 3rd Anniversary, and have also been working there a lot editing home tours and wedding packages for The Nest and The Knot. Very fun work.

During these two weeks of non-stop work, I managed to also squeeze in time to work with another favorite client, Isramerica, and just finished a video for them two nights ago after a very late night edit. Look for it soon to be posted on their website and of course, on my blog.

Now, I know I promised a new reel to be coming soon. And it will be. In fact, I'm hoping for it to be posted by the end of this week. Come back soon to check it out!

New Reel - DV Shooter

Check it out: The first update for www.sharonruedeman.com was to add a separate video reel for shooting. This is a compilation of some of my experience as a camera person. I love getting out of the edit room sometimes and going on location or in studio. I enjoy learning and hearing about other people's stories, and I am always honored that I am able to be a part of that and help them share their stories with the world.

Soon to come will be the new editor's reel, just making a few finishing touches.

Thanks for stopping by!

It's a New Year, and There's A Lot of Updating to Do

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2010 brings you all good luck and good spirits.

Here at SharonRuedeman.com, I'm making a New Year's Resolution to update, update, update!

In coming months I'll be adding a new show reel of course, displaying some of the great video creations and projects that I have collaborated on as well as solo projects 2009.

I'm also planning a re-design of the website, a new logo design, and in general to keep the site and the blog updated as much as possible.

Already, I have updated my resume, which you can view here: http://www.sharonruedeman.com/Resume.html.

If you have any other suggestions feel free to send me an email, or leave a comment below.

Thanks!
