Philly v. New York

I attended a really great show last night in Bushwick, NY. Long time friends from Temple, Philadelphia Slick tore it down on the tiny stage and intimate setting of the Bushwick Music Studios. (who served chili and beer to attendees)

Great show. It opened with Ellis Ashbrook, who've played with Philly Slick before, and represented in their home ground, reigning from just a few blocks away of the studio. Ellis Ashbrook was great, it was my first time hearing them and I immediately loved the sound of lead vocalist and keyboard player, Natalie Lowe. The band played many original songs to the local crowd and also a killer cover of Heart's "Baracuda".

Second act, Akilles + The Oddicy, who have also shared the stage with Philadelphis Slick, took the show to hip hop vibes. First time seeing them as well, and I must say, I hope to catch them again.

Philly Slick of course, rocked the house, and Noesis never disappointments with his clever poetic lyrics that are backed incredibly by the band with MKap's flowing keys, Mike P's glowing bass lines and El's hard rockin' drum beats. I love this band, and they make me miss the 215 lifestyle, hardcore. Check them out at www.philadelphiaslick.com or on facebook.

Videos of Philly Slick to come soon, so stay tuned!

Found some of my old work on YouTube

Isn't YouTube great? After leaving WWE, I was unable to get some of my more recent work before I left. Lucky for me, some of the rabid fans posted a lot of it on YouTube.

This video here is a promo I did for one the ATT mobile shows I produced called WWE Diva Shorts. Enjoy:

A Garden Tour

I was recently lucky enough to follow Mary Ahern of www.maryahernartist.com as she gave tours to about 100 people of her Northport, NY garden. Mary also sat down with me for an interview to talk about her garden, the concepts behind it and its development over the years.

Take a moment to watch the video below:

Lyric Chyron Operation

This week I continued my journey for education and knowledge by completing the Lyric 7 Pro advanced class at Chyron headquarters on Long Island. It was a good follow up class to the basic course and I am now a certified Lyric Chyron Operator.

The new Lyric 7 Pro has a lot of new features and functions compared to the past models, most of which are open up a whole new way of thinking and user ability. Just a few of the new features are the multiple timeline set up, the XMI updatability metadata integration with Adobe, adaptable primitive geometry plug-ins, and advanced levels of 3-D.

I definitely recommend the basic course to anyone familiar with Lyric 5 or 6. There's so many new functions that the advanced course could be confusing to anyone not having taken the basic first.

Stop Motion Fun

I'm a huge fan of Kimya Dawson's music and stop motion, so I mixed them both together.

It's not the best, but I'm still learning, check it out:

Keep coming back for more, hopefully my stop motion will get better as I go along.

New Project Alert: Short Documentary/News Package about the Current Job Hunt

Frustrated by the job hunt and the current market, I've decided to create a video about the struggle to find a job in this economy. This video is only in the pre-production stage and I am looking for people willing to share their stories with me.

- Are you currently looking for a job and want to talk about your experiences?
-Are you a career counselor wanting to share some of your knowledge and tips for finding a job in this market?
-Do you work at a placement agency and are willing to talk about how hard it is to place your clients into temporary or permanent jobs right now?

Lastly, although I am capable of shooting, producing and editing on my own, I wouldn't mind an assistant or partner in this project.

If you want to lend your creativity for this video package or are interested in being interviewed and share your story with me please send an email telling me a little bit about yourself to: sharonruedeman.com@gmail.com - Subject - "Job Market Video Project"

And thank you for taking the time to read this post.

After Effects Problems...any advice?

I was determined to learn how to do a Zoom in/out and Earth Spin effect for a freelance project this weekend. Although I only have After Effects 6 I was able to create the Zoom out from India and Zoom in to New York City with no problem. The only issues I had was that I don't have all the plug-ins that After Effects 7 offers such as the Noise/Grain functions that allow you to make the clouds and stars. Not a huge problem, just a minor set back.

But when it came to the Earth spin, which sounds rather easy, I ran into great troubles. There is no sphere tool that I could use to create a globe. I tried to download a plug-in for this, but my After Effects rejected it. Frustrating!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Although the project has been turned down by now, I am determined to learn this feature.

Here are my Zoom in/out - complete with camera shake and rotation. (I did not Zoom all the way out to space because I thought I'd be able to do that later with the Earth spin which was never accomplished)

The Welcome Post

Hello All -

Welcome to SharonRuedeman.Com - The Blog. It is here that I hope to keep SharonRuedeman.com updated with latest news and activities as well as discuss industry related materials. Please feel free to comment and leave feed back. The more the merrier.

Since this is the basic, HELLO blog, I thought I'd start out by linking to a really helpful and basic article about Prosumer and Professional cameras. It is from one of B&H's (the world reknown camera and video store) recent newsletters. Although I did know a lot of what the article covered, I have to admit that I learned somethings about cameras as well. In any case, there's no harm in a littler refresher course on what is important when it comes to cameras, I think you may all enjoy it:
